Triode Tubes, USB Input, Built-in DAC
The new V8P version of Musical Fidelity's wildly popular X-CAN brings performance benefits that go way beyond its predecessor's functionality as a headphone amp.
Yes, the X-CAN V8P delivers the same magnificent headphone sound as before. It has exactly the same circuit as the V8, but it now has a preamp output on the back. So, for the first time The X-CAN can also be used as a high–quality line-stage vacuum tube preamplifier. It delivers absolutely incredible sound that you won't find anywhere else for anywhere near the money.
A USB input is also provided for listening to computer-based music collections. This interfaces easily with most PC/MAC computers without the need for any additional drivers. It will play CD, MP3, and WAV files. The built-in 24-bit, 192 kHz DAC brings new life to digital music files.
Tube Triode 'Class A' Front End
The X-CAN V8P features Musical Fidelity's highly refined ECC88 dual triode tube front end for the rich, luxurious, and delicate sound that only vacuum tubes can deliver.
A new low output impedance driver stage improves current delivery and dynamics to lower impedance headphones. Twin jacks are provided for headphone listening, making it possible to share the musical experience!
"Among the Very Best"
In the May 2009 issue of Stereophile Sam Tellig called the original model X-CAN v8 "among the very best" headphone amps available.
"X-CAV v8 Demands Recommendation"
England's Hi-Fi News magazine reports, "A significant step forward from its popular predecessor, the X-CAV v8 demands recommendation if you want to extract the very best from dynamic headphones."
Audiophile guru Wes Phillips calls the v8's v3 predecessor "a specialized product that can add to the versatility of any system by adding extremely high-quality headphone amplification" in his March 15, 2004 review for OnHifi.com. "If that's what you need, why pay for more? Especially when the X-Can does what it does so well."
Drives Any Headphone Easily
The X-CAN V8P will drive any headphone easily (including the wicked AKG1000) and deliver sweet neutral dynamic sound with a colossal sound stage and effortless dynamic range. You simply don't know what your headphones are capable of until they're driven by an X-CAN V8P, it's that good. Listen and you'll have your ears and eyes opened to a new world.
A1-Derived Output Stage
The X-CAN V8P is designed for high performance all the way. The power amp output stage uses the same output transistors as Musical Fidelity's highly acclaimed A1 integrated amplifier for ultra low output impedance and exquisite sound. It can drive any headphone available with a completely flat frequency response and low distortion.
